Quezon City, Philippines — For the third consecutive year, the Members Church of God International (MCGI) earned the Jose Rizal Award from the Philippine Blood Disease and Transfusion Center (PBDTC) and the Department of Health at the Dugong Bayani Awards.

The Jose Rizal Award, which aims to feature groups or organizations that gave the most number of blood donations for the year, was given to MCGI on December 16, 2014 at the Celebrity Sports Plaza in Diliman, Quezon City.

For the year 2014, MCGI was able to donate 5,000 blood bags for PBDTC and their beneficiaries alone. MCGI’s mass blood donation drives in December 2014 produced to 2, 257 blood bags. This figure completed the said year’s total of 10,757 amassed blood bags from nationwide and regular blood donation drives.

PBDTC OIC and Executive Director Dr. Ma. Victoria Abesamis acknowledged the blood donation efforts of MCGI. She then extolled the group’s continuous support, stating that it is “never ceasing.”

“We hope that other groups, other churches, will be as zealous as yours,” Dr. Abesamis said in an interview with local television network UNTV.

During the ceremony, PBDTC featured one of their center’s many recipients: a13-year-old boy who has a blood disorder called thalassemia, a disease that causes the abnormal formation of hemoglobin in the body.

The young boy’s blood disorder requires him to be infused with a blood bag every three weeks, and it is made possible through the blood donations given to PBDTC.

“Thank you very much for continuously donating blood for us who have illnesses,” remarked the young man in an interview.

The quarterly blood donation activities is just one of the ways that MCGI Overall Servants Bro. Eliseo Soriano and Bro. Daniel S. Razon encourages members to always do good towards others.
