Brother Hernani Lim, a local of Panay, used to work at a famous Philippine casino. In the 80’s this would be his main source of income. As his work demanded, he became involved in many vices. He used to smoke and drink, and he lashed out on the simplest things, having such a short temper.

It started out as a work reassignment to Olongapo City. While there, he was able to hear Brother Eli Soriano’s preachings on the radio and was immediately captivated by the biblical wisdom and truth.

Brother Hernani chose to leave his work at the casino, even though it would become difficult for him to find another job afterwards. Both he and his wife were baptized in the Church, but many trials would come their way.

There was an incident where his neighbor was under the influence, started provoking him outside his home and testing his patience by throwing firecrackers at him. The old Brother Hernani would have lost his temper — and he almost did. But as he held the pickaxe with an instinct to strike back, the words from the Bible, from Bro. Eli’s preachings, came to mind.
