MCGI Aids Red Cross in Urging American Donors to Give Blood

The continuous blood donation efforts of the Members Church of God International made a good impression on American blood donors after a successful drive at Chicago, USA late January of this year.

Twenty-four out of the 40 successful blood donors of the recent blood drive were Americans who expressed their appreciation of MCGI’s blood campaign.

“I think it’s a really good thing, a really good idea to give blood, so we can be able to help people in need,” said Lee Kazen, one of the donors. “And it’s nice that they’re trying to do it as often as possible just to be sure that we can have as much, just in case something happens.”

High Demand for Blood Donors

According to the American Red Cross, someone needs blood every two seconds in the country. That would equate to 36,000 units of red blood cells, 7,000 units of platelets and 10,000 units of plasma every day to save lives.

While 6.8M donors give blood in the US per year, it still about less than 10% of the population — a number that the organization hopes to increase soon.

It is this great demand for blood that MCGI has partnered with the American Red Cross.

The religious organization has consistently conducted blood donation campaigns over the years to add to the Philippines’ supply of clean blood. It is part of the Church’s advocacy to do good to all men.

Kazen added, “This whole thing that keeps people coming every quarter so that we can have blood… it has saved a lot of lives. That’s really good.”

Wonderful Campaign

Another American donor, Tammy Jenkins, added, “It’s a wonderful, wonderful policy, and I think everybody should have the same thing. Not just them, but it should be carried through all people.”

MCGI Overall Servants Bro. Eli Soriano and Bro. Daniel Razon formed the Church’s very own Blood Donors’ Society more than a decade ago to primarily help brethren in need of blood.

The Blood Donors’ group has since then donated blood to thousands of their fellow citizens, and later on coinciding with the Church’s growth, to those abroad.

In December 2016, MCGI was again given the Jose Rizal Award by the Department of Health and the Philippine Blood Center during the Dugong Bayani Awards.

Named after the country’s national hero, the prestigious award is the highest recognition awarded by the said government agencies.
