MCGI’s 2nd Musical Play Festival Centers on The Gospel of Christ as Theme, Announces Metro Manila Group as Big Winner

With the help of God, the Members Church of God International (MCGI) Music Ministry successfully held its two-day Musical Play Festival on December 19 and 20, 2017 at the Ang Dating Daan (ADD) Convention Center in Apalit, Pampanga.

Fourteen chorale groups from various regions across the Philippines showcased this year’s theme “The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ”, through music and theatre production, in the sophomore year of the MCGI Music Ministry event.

Metro Manila Division bags “Best Musical Play”

For the second year of the event, the Members Church of God International (MCGI) Music Ministry featured the theme “The Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ”, with each of the participating group tackling a verse in the book of Matthew.

Metro Manila Division’s “Kawangis”, inspired by the teaching of Christ written in Matthew 5:48, was awarded the “Best Musical Play”.

The play portrayed a loving father who takes care of his ill son. Despite the hardships and struggles, the father strives to obey all of Christ’s commandments in his intention to follow what is written in the verse: “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

For their performances in the said play, Bro. Abigail Operario, Sis. Michelle Ann Remoto, and Bro. Francis Kelly all bagged the “Best Actor”, “Best Actress”, and “Best Supporting Actress” awards, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Eastern and Western Visayas Division was hailed as the first runner up for its piece titled “Kalanggaman”, which tackled the Lord Jesus Christ’s teaching in Matthew 5:8. It also won the “Best Director” and “Best in Lighting” awards.

Mindanao Division’s “Pawang Buti Lamang” and Pampanga Division’s “Maskara” came next, winning second runner up and third runner up, respectively.

More special awards were given during the event, including “Best Poster” and “Best Set Design” for Central Visayas Division’s “Habag”, and “Best Musical Composition” and “Best in Costume Design” for Cavite Division’s “Hanap: Buhay”.

The other plays performed were the following: “Anak” by Quezon-Marinduque Division, “Mga Baga Ng Apoy” by Rizal Division, “Hermano Propietario” by Bulacan Division, “Kasarinlan Sa Kasalanan” by North 1 Division, “Ganti” by North 2 Division, “Pintuan” by Bicol Division, “Ayaw Bro! (Huwag Kapatid) by Central Apalit Division, and “Tapat Ka Ga?” by the Laguna-Batangas-Mindoro-Romblon Division.

Bro. Daniel Razon highlights the Musical Play’s significance

In his opening remarks delivered on the first day of the Musical Play Festival, MCGI Assistant Overall Servant Bro. Daniel Razon pointed out the significance of having such event.

“This is another way we can do to impart the words of God. By watching the musical play, they may get to know the doctrines that we know,” said Bro. Daniel while on stage of the ADD Convention Center.

He also reminded all the participants of the event to do all things for the glory of God, as they prepare for their performances.

In addition, he wished for more people around the globe, including non-members of the Church, be able to witness the musical plays, with the appropriate translations and subtitles if necessary.
